Kelsey Martin, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Martin grew up on large cattle ranches in remote areas across the Western United States. From Texas, to Utah and to Colorado, she spent her days helping her dad move and work cattle, fix fence, and ride horses with her mom and younger sister. At any other time, she was found with her nose in a book, drawing, or exploring the outdoors looking for bugs and other creatures. She attended high school at a small school in Eastern Colorado, where she played volleyball, basketball and track, was an avid competitor in science fair, and later, graduated as valedictorian of her class of seven people. She initially attended University of Denver, where she was undecided about what path to take in college and settled her sights on Art, a long-time passion and talent. However, with the desire to experience something entirely new and pursue a more narrowed subject she moved to Lafayette, Louisiana to start a degree in Architecture & Design at the University of Louisiana.

After a year and a half of countless hours spent in the studio, Kelsey realized how much she missed working outside and being around animals and decided to make a complete change to pursue vet school. She earned a job working as a veterinary assistant at a primate research facility during school, spent summers in Lexington, KY at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital as a technician, and subsequently earned herself a spot in Colorado State University’s veterinary medicine program in 2015. Since that time, she has had the opportunity to travel to Peru, Mexico and Australia to provide veterinary care to working animals, spent a summer working at Arapahoe Park Racetrack, tended to mares at the CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory, and much more. Her career interests are focused around large animal medicine, in addition to land-animal management, reproduction technology, conservation medicine and providing services to underserved areas around the world.

In her spare time, Dr. Martin enjoys exploring and adventuring outside with her dog, Killian, cooking, traveling, attending concerts, trying new things and "drinking a good beer at the end of the day."
